About

The Social Policy Research Centre is at the forefront of research generating real change for individuals and communities in Australia, and internationally.

We are dedicated to making a positive impact through independent and leading research that tackles critical social issues. Our research enlightens public debate and enhances policy formation, both nationally and internationally.

Founded in 1980 as Australia’s first national research centre dedicated to shaping awareness of social welfare issues, we have grown into a leading force behind social change in Australia.

We are a multidisciplinary centre of more than 40 researchers who include economists, sociologists, political scientists, statisticians, experts in law, social work, child development, care, education, demography, psychology, econometrics, history, political economy, public health and disability.

We are Australia’s largest team of social policy researchers, trusted partners with government, industry and the community.

We focus on six main research areas:

In 2018 our research program expanded to include the Drug Policy Modelling Program.
