This study aimed to address the lack of policy research on the circumstances and support of older people with disability (OPWD) in China. The research applied a disability rights framework in three domains- economic security, social support and participation- to profile the needs and well-being of OPWD. The two methods used were analysis of the 2006 Second National Survey of Disabled People (the first international analysis undertaken in relation to OPWD); and interviews with OPWD, families and officials in China. Results contributed to understanding by researchers, policy officials and organisations in China and Australia who seek to realise the rights of people with disability.
