The School of the Arts & Media provides you with exciting opportunities to learn from experienced staff who are continually engaged with contemporary developments in the media, creative and performing arts industries.   

Undergraduate students can explore an exciting range of creative subject areas in the fields of English, media and the performing arts.

Honours is an extra year of study available to high achieving students who want to develop their expertise and participate in postgraduate research. 

We offer a variety of postgraduate degrees that can be taken at the master level. Our industry relevant courses equip students with the skills necessary in an evolving professional environment.

As a PhD student, you’ll work with highly regarded academics who are international leaders in their specialised fields and conduct practice-led research. 

Get Involved

Find your place in the arts and media communities, connect with other students, support innovative practices, discover expertise and thought leadership, and contribute to public debate. 

Creative Practice Lab staff members are industry professionals, technical magicians, filmmakers, producers, sound-makers and production designers. We work closely with students, researchers and artists to develop new work, and host a range of inspiring events throughout the year.

UNSWriting cultivates the flow of ideas and good writing. Through special events, workshops and public talks, we connect writers, publishers and students. This is your chance to immerse yourself in the creative industry.

Live Crossings is an online open-access magazine of creative practice and live performance events. We support the work of refugee and Indigenous writers and performers. Our network of creative practitioners work together to generate new forms of expression, critique and social dialogue. 

Newsworthy is our digital news website offering media students the opportunity to build their portfolios and learn through practical experience and mentoring by seasoned industry professionals. 

Our Research

The School of the Arts and Media was rated 5, above international standard, in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA 2018-2019) rankings for research in creative arts, writing and film studies.
