Mette Jakobsen is a Danish writer presently living in Sydney.
She has enjoyed international success with her fiction writing. The rights to her first novel, The Vanishing Act (Text Publishing), have sold to the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Holland, Taiwan, Turkey and Hungary. The novel made it onto Oprah’s book list, became number one on the US Indie book list and was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Book Prize. Mette's second novel, What the Light Hides (Text Publishing), has just been released and her third novel is under contract with Text Publishing and due out this year. Her publishers overseas include Bloomsbury, Vintage, Norton and Harper Collins.
Mette has attended NIDA's Playwright Studio. Four of her plays have been produced and broadcast on ABC Radio National in Australia with stellar casts. Several have been shortlisted for prominent international prizes such as Prix Marulic and Prix Italia.
Currently Zentropa―Lars Von Trier’s film company in Denmark―have agreed to read two of her recent screenplays.
Mette holds a Ph.D in Creative Writing (UNSW), a Masters in Creative Arts (UTS) and a BA (Hons) in Philosophy (UNSW), as well as well as being a member of NIDA's Playwrights Studio 2004.
