Summary
This research aims to examine the circumstances and experiences of, the choices open to, and the decisions made by British women who were widowed in India between 1860 and 1900. By broadening our knowledge of their experiences it seeks to advance understanding of British women's social, colonial and imperial history and of cultural intersections.
