The Master of Education (Teacher Professional Learning) is a specialist program with a focus on mentoring, coaching and supervision in professional experience and professional learning.

Understanding the role of coaching and mentoring

This postgraduate program addresses the increasing demands to explore, critique and contribute to the study of mentoring and teacher professional learning. The program provides an opportunity to explore the context, purpose, and role of coaching and mentoring.

You will examine contemporary issues in relevant theory and practice through a range of courses covering:

  • teacher learning
  • Australian professional standards for teachers
  • assessment and supervision of teachers including classroom observation
  • performance appraisal and evaluation
  • professional practice
  • mentoring
  • relevant policy
  • suitable research methodologies

A Graduate Certificate in Education (Teacher Professional Learning) is also available.

Domestic students may be eligible to pay or defer fees through FEE-HELP and Commonwealth supported places are available.

Our postgraduate courses are offered through a range of flexible delivery modes, including:

  • online and blended courses
  • intensive school holiday courses
  • workplace and self-directed learning evening classes

Graduate Certificate in Education (Teacher Professional Learning)

Students studying the Graduate Certificate in Education (Teacher Professional Learning) will study 24 units of credit including four elective courses from the following options:

  • Teacher Appraisal and Development - Intensive course (offered in 2017)
  • Teacher Coaching and Mentoring - Intensive course
  • Mentoring Practicum - Self-directed course
  • Supervision and Assessment* - Online course
  • Teacher Learning - Weekly face-to-face class

Master of Education (Teaching Professional Learning)

Students studying a Masters degree in Education (Teacher Professional Learning) will complete 48 units of credit including the following:

  • Four core courses from the following options within the Teacher Professional Learning specialisation:
    • Teacher Appraisal and Development - Intensive course (offered in 2017)
    • Teacher Coaching and Mentoring - Intensive course
    • Mentoring Practicum - Self-directed course 
    • Supervision and Assessment* - Online course
    • Teacher Learning - Weekly face-to-face class
  • One research methodology course - Intensive course
  • One independent project - Self-directed course
  • Two electives courses from the full range of Master of Education options

Entry Requirements

Students must meet the following selection requirements for entry to the Graduate Certificate of Education and the Master of Education:

  • A recognised Bachelor degree and a postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. Graduate Diploma of Education or Master of Teaching).

OR

  • A four year pre-service teacher education qualification, including professional experience, equivalent to the qualifications required for Graduate teacher status in NSW.

An applicant who submits evidence of other equivalent academic and professional qualifications may be permitted to enrol in the degree.
