The Career Ready Mentoring Program provides penultimate or final year Arts & Social Sciences students with invaluable tools, guidance and insights to assist in the transition towards professional life.

It is important to note this program is not an internship, work experience or employment. Our aim is to assist you to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to gain employment in your chosen field.

Eligibility criteria

We welcome and encourage applications from all students who meet the following criteria:

  • UNSW Arts & Social Sciences undergraduate or postgraduate student in their penultimate or final year of study
  • Enrolled in courses for Semester 1, 2017
  • An overall WAM of 50 or above and good standing at time of application
  • Bachelor of Education students must have completed Professional Experience 2 - EDST6761
  • Can commit to the compulsory dates and responsibilities as outlined below in the program timetable
  • Submit an online application by Sunday 12 March 2017

Mid-placement debriefs
Thursday 1 June, 6pm Attend closing event and present summative reflection of mentoring experience

Responsibilities
1 Register your interest via the form below
2 Respond to phone and email communications from program organisers within 48 hours of receiving
3 Make initial contact with your mentor once matched
4 Clearly communicate your expectations to your mentor and be open to their guidance
5 Show a strong commitment to completing the program to the highest standard possible
6 Commit to 6 face-to-face meetings throughout the duration of the program (maximum of 8)
7 As a mentee driven program, you are responsible for taking charge of your own development and experience
8 Mentees will be asked to keep a reflective journal of your experience and present a summative reflection at the post event function which will contribute to AHEGS accreditation. All mentees will be given training on preparing for these tasks during the pre-program training session.

Other information

  • We will provide all successful students with a pre-program training session to prepare you for undertaking a mentorship
  • Meetings will take place at a location and time most convenient to your mentor
  • You will be asked to attend a mid-placement debrief which will give you an opportunity to touch base with other participants and share your experience so far
