Bachelor of Media Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary)

The UNSW Bachelor of Media Arts and Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is a four-year, full-time (or part-time equivalent) double degree designed for graduates wanting to pursue a career in secondary-school teaching and arts. After completing the program, you’ll have a professional teaching qualification as well as a Media Arts degree from the renowned UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture.

The UNSW Bachelor of Education is recognised as an initial teaching qualification in both government and non-government secondary schools throughout Australia and overseas. This degree will enable you to pursue a career in secondary school teaching.

Diversify Your Learning

Through your study of a Bachelor of Media Arts and Bachelor of Education (Secondary) you’ll expand your knowledge of educational psychology and educational theories, pedagogy, assessment, diversity, inclusivity, indigenous perspectives and classroom management.

This degree recognises the real-world value of practical experience during your study. Our students will develop skills in the classroom and gain practical experience teaching by their second year of study. We have strong industry partnerships that provide our pre-service teachers experience working in, or even observing cutting-edge programs in classrooms.

Build upon your interest and knowledge in media by gaining classroom experience, professional learning and development and a flexible style to learning. Students can focus on a particular career path, through flexible learning, online courses and intensive courses.

You can complete your professional experience in a variety of locations including schools in Eastern Sydney, rural and remote schools, and overseas. Upon completion of your degree, you’ll have completed up to 80 days in supervised teaching at least three secondary-school contexts.

Specialise in Media Arts

Pursue a teaching specialisation in Graphics and Multimedia Technology, as well as a second teaching specialisation in Visual Arts. You’ll learn both theoretical and practical aspects of education while building your creative skills in multimedia.

You’ll learn the most up to date theoretical and practical knowledge from our award-winning lecturers. Our partnerships with local schools, industry and government mean you’ll enjoy a unique learning experience which is intellectually stimulating and professionally engaging.
