Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

UNSW Graduate Certificate in Education (TESOL) is professional development program, designed for qualified teachers and other educational professionals working or intending to work teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) and/or Languages. Our postgraduate programs in Education (TESOL) provide educational professionals with a vocationally relevant qualification that combines theory and practice.

We offer two TESOL programs:

Education & Applied Linguistics

At the master’s level, you will study a cross-disciplinary program in education and applied linguistics. Students will engage with key issues and current debates in foreign and second language education in Australia and internationally.

As a student in Education (TESOL), you will explore a range of social, cultural, political and pedagogical aspects of education and applied linguistics.

Domestic students may be eligible to pay or defer fees through FEE-HELP and Commonwealth Supported Places are available.

Your Career

A Master's degree in Education will enhance your career options and professional advancement within a broad range of educational institutions. If you are already working as a qualified language teacher, after completing the Master of Education (TESOL) your future career options could include:

  • Education and development teacher
  • Language assessment and testing (such as becoming an IELTS examiner)
  • Course design/writing/publishing
  • Language school management

Depending on the combination of courses you study, the Master of Education (TESOL) also allows you to teach in NEAS-accredited language centres in Australia. You will also be eligible to work as a Director of Studies in NEAS-accredited centres.
