Father's uptake of family friendly provisions

Past project

The project consisted of two parts, (1) a review of the research literature, and (2) two case studies of fathers' take-up of family friendly provisions in firms where good provisions were available.

The review of research findings and the data sources revealed that information about fathers' take-up in Australia was scanty, but that all indications pointed to low take-up rates.

The case studies found that barriers to fathers' take-up arose from three separate sources - the process of implementing policy, the competitive pressures from the organisations' external environments and the consequent time-demands on workers, and constraints arising out of people's domestic arrangements.
