SPRC Workshop: Supported decision making for people with disability

Support for people with disability to assist with decision making is undergoing significant change as we move towards the rights articulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (Article 12). The newly emphasised assumption is that everyone has capacity to make decisions and some people need support to express their preferences and exercise their right to make decisions about their lives. Current policy based on substitute decision making is shifting towards this supported decision making approach. This workshop will be an opportunity for people with disability, researchers and policy participants to discuss how we reorient policy and services towards these rights-based expectations.
