A compact cultural experience full of vibrant rhythms and melodic colour.
The Guitar Ensemble takes us on a journey with Machado’s vibrant dance music from north-east Brazil, Dyens’ contemporary twist on the Argentinian tango and the cool colours of Tisserand’s ‘Indigo’.
Strumming through time, Ottorino Respighi’s orchestration of sixteenth century lute music in ‘Ancient Airs and Dances’ is brought firstly to the twentieth century, then lives on in the twenty-first century through transcriptions for guitar quartet.
Musicians from the Intermediate Jazz Ensemble warm the autumn night with varied pieces from the American songbook of the twentieth century. Jazz vocalists give their own colour to lyrics and melodies, while the rhythm section joins forces with a spirited sax pair to leave you tapping your toes.
