Social Justice Teacher Education

New teachers need to be prepared to teach in schools that reflect the social and economic diversity that exists in Australia today. As a result, their teacher education programs need to provide them with grounding in this context through explicit instruction in issues of race, class and poverty along with culturally responsive pedagogy. I will ground my research in the reasons why this is important and will research whether this is happening in teacher education programs in universities in Australia.
