Dr Ash Watson is a Postdoctoral Fellow and cultural/digital sociologist with the Vitalities Lab, Social Policy Research Centre and Centre for Social Research in Health, UNSW Sydney. She works with Professor Deborah Lupton (UNSW) and Professor Mike Michael (Exeter) on the ARC Discovery Project 'Living with Personal Data: Australians’ Understandings and Practices'. Her research uses ethnographic and arts-based methods to explore technological developments, DIY community practices and storytelling. Her work has appeared in Cultural Sociology, Qualitative Research, the American Journal of Cultural Sociology, and Sociological Research Online.
Her debut novel Into the Sea, a work of sociological fiction, was published in 2020 with Brill. In 2017 Ash was a doctoral Endeavour Research Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London. She is the creator of the public sociology project So Fi Zine, an open access publication for arts and social science cross disciplinary inquiry, and the invited inaugural Fiction Editor of the The Sociological Review's short story series.
