Summary
This project will examine Iranian films adapted from non-Iranian literary works both before and after the Islamic revolution of 1979 in order to elucidate the heretofore untouched field of cross-cultural adaptation in Iranian cinema. By closely analyzing adaptations of world literature in Iranian cinema both before and after the Islamic revolution, I will investigate the ways in which 'gender politics' are translated across culture and across media at different historical periods and junctions.
