When is your child ready for school?

How old were you when you started school? In some parts of the world children don’t begin formal education until the age of seven, meanwhile in Australia children as young as four and a half can be sent off to school. But the rules vary from state to state and each year parents are making decisions about whether to send their child as soon as they’re eligible, or to hold them back another year.

We’re talking to Dr Dennis Yarrington is the President of the Primary School Principals Association in Canberra, Professor Andrew Martin, a Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of New South Wales and And from Melbourne we’re joined by Dr Shona Bass, Managing Director of Early Life Foundations, a consultancy focussing on early childhood education about school
