IDBS researchers receive Journal of Intellectual & Developmental Disability award

Dr Susan Collings (formerly UNSW Sydney), Dr Angela Dew, and Associate Professor Leanne Dowse of the Intellectual Disability Behaviour Support (IDBS) program, School of Social Sciences, received the Journal of Intellectual & Developmental Disability (JIDD) ‘Australian Paper of the Year 2017’ award for their Opinions and Perspective piece entitled ‘Support planning with people with cognitive disability and complex support needs in the Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme’.

The award was presented in November at the Australasian Society for Intellectual Disability conference in Hobart, Tasmania by Professor Jennifer Clegg, JIDD editor. In presenting the award, Professor Clegg noted “This paper shows that brevity is no barrier to excellence”.

This paper is the first in a series of publications by the IDBS team reporting on translational work around planning with people with cognitive disability and complex support needs.
