40 Years of Understanding – Naati’s Anniversary

Around 80 of the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters’ (NAATI) friends and supporters gathered in Canberra to celebrate their 40th Anniversary in September.

NAATI CEO, Mark Painting acknowledged the work of Chair, Ms Kerry Stubbs, who he said had steered the organisation through challenging times, overseeing significant developments. Kerry Stubbs will pass the leadership of the Board of Directors to Voula Messimeri in December 2017. Professor Sandra Hale was credited for her contribution in leading the development of the new certification system, which will commence in January 2018.

NAATI continues to adapt to the changing demands of the community and raise the professional standards in the translating and interpreting industry.

Associate Professor Ludmila Stern and Professor Hale were the invited guests at the NAATI celebration in recognition of their major contribution to NAATI. Associate Professor Stern is a past Board Director (2010-2016) and current Chair of the NAATI newly created Technical Reference Advisory Committee (TRAC).

Professor Hale is the leading author of the NAATI-commissioned the Improvements to NAATI Testing (INT) Project and Report (2012). She is the National President of the Australian professional association of interpreters and translators, AUSIT.
