Do you want a career in the evolving journalism and communications industry? Want to learn multiplatform storytelling techniques?

In the Bachelor of Media (Communication & Journalism) you learn how to use your words to tell a story. But not just any story. Our students learn multiplatform storytelling techniques, developing diverse professional skills, from creating communication strategies to writing the news. In this program you are not simply skilled up as a writer, you are also encouraged to become an influential and strategic communicator able to tackle complex issues by drawing on your integrated practical and theoretical expertise.

In addition to fundamental courses in media theory and practice, you can also choose specialist electives from a range of communication, journalism and media courses including:

The Bachelor of Media in Communication and Journalism is a three year degree during which you will study a range of core courses and electives.

Practical experience

Students in the Bachelor of Media in Communication and Journalism can gain relevant practical experience in a number of ways.

Opportunities include:

  • third year portfolio project or media internship
  • elective internship through the Arts & Social Sciences Vocational Placement (Internship) course
  • elective production courses from a wide range of faculties across UNSW, including Art & Design, Built Environment, Computing Science, and Engineering
  • use of advanced multimedia labs, digital video production, post production facilities, animation and audio studios for relevant courses

Overseas exchange program

You don't have to choose between overseas travel and study - you can do both! Spend a term overseas at a partner university and receive credit towards your Bachelor of Media degree at UNSW.

A year-long honours program is available for high achieving students in the Bachelor of Media in Communication and Journalism.

Honours is an intensive study program that provides the opportunity to engage in specialised research, to further develop analytical skills and expand your graduate options.

Dual degrees

A dual degree means you can study your media degree concurrently with another degree. You will graduate with two degrees, broadening your graduate options.
