Overview

Teaching gifted students

At UNSW, you can choose from two postgraduate programs designed for teachers who would like to specialise in the field of gifted education:

  • Graduate Certificate in Education (Gifted Education)/COGE
  • Master of Education (Gifted Education)

Our Gifted Education courses focus on contemporary issues involving gifted and talented students. These rewarding programs examine the development of curricula and teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of gifted students.

Both the Graduate Certificate in Education (COGE) and the Masters in Gifted Education can be completed in a range of flexible modes, including through online or blended learning, school holiday intensive courses and traditional evening classes.

Domestic students may be eligible to pay or defer fees through FEE-HELP and Commonwealth supported places are available.

Flexible delivery

Our postgraduate courses are offered through a range of flexible delivery modes, including:

  • online and blended courses
  • intensive school holiday courses
  • workplace and self-directed learning
  • evening classes

Graduate Certificate in Education (Gifted Education)/COGE

Students studying the professional Graduate Certificate in Education will complete 24 units of credit including the following:

  • One compulsory course
    • Key Concepts in Gifted Education - Intensive and online course
  • Three elective courses from options within the Gifted Education specialisation.

Master of Education (Gifted Education)

Students studying a Masters degree in Gifted Education will complete 48 units of credit the following:

  • One compulsory course
    • Key Concepts in Gifted Education - Intensive and online course
  • Three elective courses from options within the Gifted Education specialisation
  • One elective research methodology course - Intensive course
  • One independent research project - Self-directed course
  • Two elective courses from the full range of Master of Education options

Entry requirements

Students must meet the following selection requirements for entry to the Graduate Certificate of Education and the Master of Education:

  • A recognised Bachelor degree and a postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. Graduate Diploma of Education or Master of Teaching).

OR

  • A four year pre-service teacher education qualification, including professional experience, equivalent to the qualifications required for Graduate teacher status in NSW.

An applicant who submits evidence of other equivalent academic and professional qualifications may be permitted to enrol in the degree.
