Undergraduate

UNSW School of Education provides future students a double degree offering for their initial teacher education study. Our unique double degree pre-service programs are designed to increase your employability upon graduation and put you ahead of the pack. The Education program at UNSW prepares our graduates to pursue a career in secondary school teaching in New South Wales, Australia and overseas. Our students undertake professional practice in at least two different secondary schools under the supervision of experienced teachers.

Increased Academic Standards for Studying Teaching

Future teachers will need to meet the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to study an accredited undergraduate teaching degree in NSW.

All UNSW undergraduate initial teacher education programs are accredited dual degrees which meet the new standards by requiring students to pass a full year of academic studies in their chosen teaching area(s) before studying teaching methods or going into schools on placement.

Achieving three Band 5 HSC results is therefore not an entry requirement but is still expected knowledge.

As a part of the increased standards, all students will also be required to pass a national literacy and numeracy test as part of their program requirements.
