Using new technologies, such as SMS reminders, to improve HIV clinical care, including keeping clinical appointments and increasing adherence to HIV treatment, is an emerging area. Previous research in Australia has demonstrated that SMS reminders sent by clinicians can increase patients’ testing and re-testing for key sexually transmissible infections. SMS reminders sent by community-based organisations such as the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation to improve ART adherence is an innovative approach. This project aims to systematically and comprehensively assess the acceptability and feasibility of SMS messaging delivered to individual’s mobile phones as a support mechanism to promote adherence to ART for people living with diagnosed HIV.
