HIV Awareness Week Forum Ending HIV – Tackling stigma, discrimination and criminalisation

You are invited to a special event held as part of the NSW schedule of activities for HIV Awareness Week 2014. The Centre for Social Research in Health will facilitate a forum to discuss the complex social challenges of “ending HIV”. NSW has a world class HIV response that combines the promotion of safe practices, regular testing and timely initiation of treatment to promote quality of life of people with HIV and curb new infections. Issues of stigma, discrimination and criminalisation nevertheless remain present in the lives of many people living with and affected by HIV and pose formidable barriers to the success of the NSW HIV response.

Following an opening address, a panel of experts will tackle these thorny issues and share their experiences in strategies that work in creating the enabling social environment that is critical to HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care. The panel will include the executives and other high-level representatives of key organisations in NSW, including Positive Life NSW, ACON and NUAA, as well as leading legal experts and researchers.
