Welcome to IPP

The International Pendulum Project (IPP) is a research project - funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) - on liberal, contextual and cross-disciplinary approaches to the teaching and learning of pendulum motion at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. See more details in about us, at which page, Michael Matthews provides a special overview.

The Australian Research Council provides funds through its International Linkage programme to foster collaboration and interaction between Australian and international research centres. The scheme is applicable to established researchers, junior researchers and, importantly, postgraduate students. The International Pendulum Project is ideally suited to benefit from this scheme, and an application for Linkage Funds is being considered, hopefully involving a number of overseas research centres. The support does not cover salary, but it does cover living expenses, assistance with travel, and research costs. It allows overseas researchers to come to UNSW and supports local researchers visiting overseas research centres. See more on this at international linkage

ARC has provided funds for a three-year study of the effect of historically, philosophically and culturally informed teaching of pendulum motion topics in New South Wales. All Primary and Secondary teachers are invited to participate. See more details at ARC teaching group

Springer (formerly Kluwer) has published 2005, The Pendulum: Scientific, Historical, Philosophical and Educational Perspectives an anthology edited by Matthews, M.R., Gauld, C.F. & Stinner, A.. See details at publications

Pendulum Fellowships: Funds have become available for a number of modest pendulum fellowships tenable at UNSW. These fellowships would ideally suit scholars who have independent means; that is, can pay their own living expenses while in Sydney. The basic intention is to provide a return air fare to Sydney plus some contribution to rental accommodation expenses while in Sydney. See more details about these fellowships
