The National Centre in HIV Social Research

The National Centre in HIV Social Research (NCHSR) was established in 1990 with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. We are located within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at The University of New South Wales, Sydney.

NCHSR is internationally recognised for its contribution to the Australian response to HIV and hepatitis C. While the core of its work has been in social aspects of HIV, particularly in regard to sexual practice, in recent years the NCHSR research program has expanded to include social research related to hepatitis C, injecting and illicit drug use, sexual health, Aboriginal health and the Asia-Pacific region.

World Hepatitis Day

'Am I number 12?'

'Am I Number 12?’ World Hepatitis Day on Monday 19th May, is coordinated by the World Hepatitis Alliance and supported by over 200 patient groups as well as local and national organisations such as Hepatitis Australia. This year the Alliance is asking the question ‘Am I Number 12?’ to raise awareness of the incredible statistic that one in 12 people worldwide are living with chronic viral hepatitis B or C. Support the campaign by visiting www.aminumber12.org or visit Hepatitis Australia to find out about local and national events.
